Uses of Methyl Methacrylate


Ⅰ. Methyl methacrylate


Methyl methacrylate is mainly used in the processing of modern building materials and chemical products. From the definition of its own properties, it is an organic compound, also known as MMA, which is also a kind of chemical raw materials.


Ⅱ. Application of methyl methacrylate



1. Polymeric monomers and additives


Methyl methacrylate produced by Douwin is used in the manufacture of polymethyl methacrylate, coatings, lubricating oil additives, plastics, adhesives, resins, wood wetting agents, permeating agent for motor coil, ion exchange resins, paper polishes, textile printing and dyeing auxiliaries, leather treatment agents, printing and dyeing auxiliaries and insulating pouring materials.


2. Preparation of other acrylates (interesterification method)


MMA chemical formula is C5H8O2 and methyl methacrylate supply can be used to prepare other acrylates. The preparation methods of acrylic esters mainly include: direct esterification of alcohol and acid, acyl chloride esterification, transesterification and so on.


The corresponding acrylate and methanol can be obtained by the reaction of methyl methacrylate with different alcohols. Dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA), butyl methacrylate (BMA), 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate and so on can be obtained by methacrylate uses

interesterification method.


Traditionally, the catalyst used for methyl methacrylate in interesterification method is mainly inorganic acid, organic acid or its acid salt, which has the advantage of low price. However, they are highly corrosive and have strict requirements for equipment, apparatus and operating condition. And it has long reaction time, many side reactions, serious three wastes, and is easy to darken the color of the product.
