1. What is Methyl Ethyl Ketone?

Methyl ethyl ketone is a kind of chemical product, colorless and transparent liquid, with acetone-like smell, volatile, and miscible with ethanol, ether, benzene, chloroform and oils. It is soluble in water, but the solubility decreases when the temperature rises.

Methyl ethyl ketone is condensed with phenol to form 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)butane. Reacts with aliphatic esters in the presence of a basic catalyst to produce β-diketones. In the presence of an acid catalyst, it reacts with acid anhydride to produce β-diketone, and reacts with hydrogen cyanide to produce cyanohydrin.
