Use of Methyl Ethyl Ketone

1. What is Methyl Ethyl Ketone?

Methyl ethyl ketone is a kind of chemical product, colorless and transparent liquid, with acetone-like smell, volatile, and miscible with ethanol, ether, benzene, chloroform and oils. It is soluble in water, but the solubility decreases when the temperature rises.

Methyl ethyl ketone is flammable, steam can form an explosive mixture with air, and the explosion limit is 1.81% to 11.5% (volume). High-concentration steam is narcotic. The compound resinizes when irradiated by sunlight or ultraviolet light.

Methyl ethyl ketone is condensed with phenol to form 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)butane. Reacts with aliphatic esters in the presence of a basic catalyst to produce β-diketones. In the presence of an acid catalyst, it reacts with acid anhydride to produce β-diketone, and reacts with hydrogen cyanide to produce cyanohydrin. Douwin has methyl ethyl ketone for sale at reasonable prices.

2. The Use of Methyl Ethyl Ketone

Methyl ethyl ketone is a solvent with excellent performance. Methyl ethyl ketone uses are coatings, oil refining, dyes, pharmaceutical industry, lubricant dewaxing, magnetic tape, printing ink and other fields. Methyl ethyl ketone has a moderate methyl ethyl ketone boiling point, good solubility, fast volatilization, stability, and non-toxicity. Its importance in ketone solvents is second only to acetone.

Methyl ethyl ketone is also an important organic chemical compound, used to synthesize methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, and is an intermediate in the preparation of spices, antioxidants and certain catalysts. It is an important low boiling point solvent with moderate volatility and is miscible with most hydrocarbon solvents.

Methyl ethyl ketone has no adverse effects on high solid content and viscosity, has excellent solubility and drying characteristics, can form azeotropes with many solvents, and has strong solubility for various cellulose derivatives, synthetic rubber, grease, and higher fatty acids.
